And so Final Year is here to stay!

Due to a horrendously long writer's block and thanks to the pain-in-the-@$$ surgery posting, I am now re-posting an old post of mine, one that I wrote when I was in a similar mood with new additions of this posting's experiences.
The column "Interests" on my blogger profile lists- music, books and surgery.
I should also say this profile was updated before I started my Surgery postings in college!
My interest in surgery still remains. It is the surgeons I detest!
And to get back at that group of surgeons I hate, here is the following.
Surgeons as a rule are a big bunch of MCPs. Of course, as for every rule there are exceptions. This post does not apply to those few.

#1 Women cannot become surgeons.
Ha! Get over your ego you old fool!
Well, women are as good as men if not better. Not many Indian women take up surgery because of their family issues and all that bunch of crap. That doesn't mean those few surgeons are incompetent.
It takes more guts for a woman to become a surgeon in a man's world!(I am talking mostly about the situation in India)
I vow to get right back at them by becoming one. This one here, relishes a challenge!

#2 You can crack all sortsa jokes on your female students.
Seriously! Who gave you the right to?!
Its sad that we can't say a thing to their face. Just because our Final Year results lay in their hands we have to put up with their snide remarks and sexist jokes!
While the boys keep sniggering at the back at their tasteless tirade, us girls have to suffer all that! Well, let me tell you this! We are so much better at answering questions during grill-time.

"How can you tell me that this patient was unco-operative? You are girls! He would be more than co-operative!" Spoken by the HOD of Surgery when we told him that this patient with hydrocele was refusing to show us his private parts.

"Aap unko bhi bataayiye. Ye bacche seekhna chaahthe hain. Aakhir aap ko bhi wahi hai jho inke paas hai." Said another Surgeon to a lady with a breast lump.
(Translated= Please show these students, they want to learn. After all you have the same "parts" that these girls do.)

#3 All females under your supervision are subject to your leching.
This does not even deserve a remark from me!
It just plain disgusts me! I mean we are subjected to this one too just because we care enough to learn something and pass!

This is just a post to show how awful surgeons really are.(Atleast in my college, my so-called professors fall under this category.)
And as of this day, I have very little respect for this particular division of human beings!

Sorry I didn't read this one.
But yes, I agree with your wise friend. Coz the apple vodka inside me sings the same tunes! Even though it fails to work.

i read this one earlier and agree it really is disgusting.. all this prejudice..

you know these days there is a russian tv-serial running here about medicine students who have their internship in a hospital, exactly in surgery. And this idea about women who cant be good surgeons was discussed there too, though in the end everyone agreed its crap!

you will be a great doc, that i am sure about :)

Hi ,

I was reading ur blog posts and found some of them to be wow.. u write well.. Why don't you popularize it more.. ur posts took my particular attention as some of them are interesting topics of mine too;

BTW I help out some ex-IIMA guys who with another batch mate run www.rambhai.com where you can post links to your most loved blog-posts. Rambhai was the chaiwala at IIMA and it is a site where users can themselves share links to blog posts etc and other can find and vote on them. The best make it to the homepage!

This way you can reach out to rambhai readers some of whom could become your ardent fans.. who knows.. :)

Cheers,

Whoa... so much of crap, how do you tolerate??

Yep the best way to get back is to become a surgeon yourself.

P.S: Did you hear those comments come from surgeons at a govt. hospital? I don't think it's the same at private hospitals.. or am I mistaken??

Felt really bad...although some of these things happen in our hospital too....I don't like surgery and surgeons too.
The worst among surgeons are orthopaedic surgeons!!! They can compete with any nukkad chhap taporis!

my aunt was one of the best surgeons in trivandrum! unfortunately, she has congestive heart failure, and is in the ICU now. i didn't even know that such preconceptions existed. though i think you'd like the first two posts in this blog. there are only three and i'm not talking about the recent one.

Ha ha!Surgeons are worse, but physicians are no better too!

Btw I completely agree with Pranay about the Orthos, they are the biggest bunch of goons ever! And I thought all this happened only happens in my University :P

i cant believe this :(

so sad...but prove em all rong by becoming one... a very successful one for that matter!

God Bless... and best of luck :)

I think Orthopaedics is more of a boys' club than Surgery. And almost all of our surgeons are quite nice. And thus it came to be that while Surgery is not my favourite-est subject, surgeonsare my favourite people. :)
